The early morning breeze with the strong aroma of coffee in the air is how the day starts off at the San Ignacio Hotel Resort. Let’s be honest, some of us are not early birds; in fact, we are what we refer to as a night owl. But after taking advantage of an Early Morning Birdwatching tour at the only jungle in town, you will see all the hype is all about and why birding in Belize has become such a popular experience over the past couple of years.
Rufous-tailed Hummingbird
Our Belize luxury resort is near the downtown area, in fact, it is the only luxury hotel located within town limits. You would perhaps think birding here is uneventful and ask yourself, “Will I even get to see more than ten birds here?” “How many birds would I spot being this near to San Ignacio Belize?” But boy, will you be surprised. Although birding tours are a gamble since you never know what type and how many birds you’ll see, rest assured you will not be disappointed!
Olive -Throated Parakeets
The Early Morning Birding tour at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel is a fantastic experience, whether as a novice or pro bird watcher, you are sure to have a good time. Start the tour with a cup of freshly brewed coffee as you get acquainted with the surroundings and our tour guide extraordinaire, Nigel Velasquez, right from the restaurant’s observation desk. Here, you will be able to identify up to 20 species of birds both seen and heard from the hills and surrounding jungle.
White-Collared Manakin | Keel-Billed Toucan
After this coffee session, take a 3.58-mile walk on the property trails where you will be able to identify a little over 40 species of birds ranging from hummingbirds to toucans. To make this even more interesting, Nigel is able to identify birds just from sound alone! All the colours and shapes of the birds make you feel like you’re deep in faraway jungles, secluded from civilization.
However, bird watching and admiring the surroundings is not the only focus during this tour but also the number of things you learn from it.
Lesson’s Motmot
Belize jungle tours like these are definitely worth it, not only because they are a great introduction course for those who are testing the waters, but because it helps you get a grasp of birds’ climate, environment, and habits that makes each one of them so special.
