La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge 2014

On March 7th 2014, one of the most demanding and thrilling competitions in Belize took place…La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge 2014! La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge is the longest canoe race in Central America. It is a four-day long competition that extends over 170 miles, starting from San Ignacio and Santa Elena’s Hawksworth Bridge and ending at the Belcan Bridge in downtown Belize City.

 

Since 1998, the San Ignacio Resort Hotel has been a proud sponsor of La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge assisting in the effort to foster a community participatory event and draw public attention. The event was created with three foundations in mind: ecology and environmental awareness, culture and history of the Belize Old River, and tourism development. By focusing on these factors, La Ruta Maya has been able to bring together a wide range of interests.

Over the years, this Belize event has gathered the attention of the international sports community; captivating competitors from various destinations including Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Japan, amongst others. La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge has remained one of Belize’s most awaited and fun-filled events, with hundreds of locals and foreign visitors following the race to cheer for family members, friends, and businesses, while also enjoying time with friends and family.
