A Dollar for the Caribbean Relief Fund

BTB fund

On Thursday, February 17th, 2018, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) in collaboration with tourism stakeholders countrywide, raised a total of $119,868.00 BZD to assist Caribbean countries that were victims of Hurricane Irma and Maria. In early September of last year; a category 5 Hurricane Irma caused major devastation to many Caribbean countries, only to be followed by Hurricane Maria two weeks later. The damages were massive—so many residents were left with nothing but despair.

Thankfully, the Caribbean Relief Fund Campaign came in place and the BTB reached out to all stakeholders and encouraged them to participate. The participants donated a $1 for every guest during the month of October 2016. The BTB donated $1 for every tourist visiting the country of Belize which made up for the grand total presented to Mr. Hugh Riley, Secretary General of the Caribbean Tourism Organization. During a virtual press conference, the Secretary General expressed his gratitude saying, “We thank you Belize on behalf of the entire Caribbean family.

Other supporting organizations included the Belize Hotel Association, Tropic Air, The Belize Airport Concession Company, the Belize Tourism Industry Association, tour operators, hotels, water taxis and other stakeholders. The San Ignacio Resort Hotel is pleased to have been a small part of this change for our brothers and sisters in the Caribbean countries. We join in their time of need and support them as they put the pieces back together to come back stronger than ever!

We also thank the BTB for uniting us all for a worthy cause.
