Canoeing
The scenic and peaceful Macal River drains the Maya Mountain and form one of the longest river system in the country. Entering along the Lower Macal River the float downstream is quick along the rapids and slow moving most of the way. The riverbanks are heavily forested and outcrops of limestone rocks protrude along the gorges many tropical fish, turtles and river otters share the clear mountain water. Swimming and swinging from vines is also added to this adventure. Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve
One of Central America oldest landmark is the exposed granite of the Mountain Pine Ridge. Here dozens of streams cuts through the shallow soils and creates cascading waterfalls and natural pools in which to swim in. Breath taking vistas and nature trails takes you through enchanting caves such as Rio Frio and Closing Jaw Caves. Native Caribbean Pine trees also whisks cool mountain breeze an escape from the tropical heat. |
